New Custom Craftsman Home In Charlotte
This project was very complicated from the start. The lot was oddly shaped in the back, which made the setbacks go into the existing build area. The existing house was grandfathered in to the setback guidelines, so we could not build anything new in the back-right side of the lot. A variance was applied for with the City and eventually granted to allow us to go up with new construction on that corner.
The lot was already very tight. The existing home was only about 800sqft. Designing a new home with about 2400 sqft, with a garage was quite a tall task. Peter Brooks, the architect designed a beautiful home around all the parameters. We excavated the land to put the 2-car garage under the main floor since the lot was so tight. Peter used all of the available footage very efficiently. There is no wasted space in this home.
The style and design of this home is classic craftsman. We used real stone columns on the front porch. We used Hardie lap siding with a cedar shake detail in all the gable areas. The entire right side of the main level is the master suite. A hallway leads to laundry, a home office and the suite. It’s a very private feel. A custom designed ceiling detail in the master bedroom adds a nice finishing touch to this area.
