If you think building a ‘green’ home is a fad that will quickly fade away, you may not know what that truly means. Green construction is becoming more and more popular. Last year, about 30% of home builders said they incorporated green technologies into the homes they built. In five years, that number is expected to be 50%. We think that’s a good thing and we believe you will agree when you see what that really means.

Below are the top trends for ‘green’ homes in 2018:

  1. Endurance
Due to a multitude of natural disasters in 2017, and with the expectation of them increasing in the coming years, endurance and resilience is becoming a top priority in home construction. So, what does that mean? At Artistic Contractors, we use the most durable materials, such as R30 insulated walls that withstand strong winds, are fire and water-resistant, and termite proof. In addition, we build with Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) walls for exceptional strength and durability where needed.
  2. Energy Efficiency
Like most custom home builders, we use Energy Star appliances. But we, at Artistic Contractors go a lot further than that when it comes to energy efficiency. At Artistic Contractors that means that using super-insulated materials – such as the R30 insulated walls mentioned above – and energy efficient design concept is our standard.
  3. Renewable Resources
People already know the benefits of an electric automobile. The coming trend is the same for the home. Transitioning to an all-electric home means switching out gas as an energy source. Surprisingly, 25% of all homes in the US are already completely electric, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. At Artistic, we are seeing instances where homeowners are open to replacing the gas stove with an induction range, and the gas furnace and water heater with a heat pump.
  4. Natural Design
It seems that humans gravitate to nature for peacefulness, creativity, and refreshment. So, it’s no surprise that natural settings are physically and mentally beneficial to us. However, for the last hundred years, homes have been made to completely separate us from nature. The new trend for ‘green’ design is to incorporate nature into our homes.

At Artistic Contractors, we embrace this idea. We pay attention to natural elements that can be introduced to our custom homes, such as the movement of light through the positioning of windows and the melting of the indoors with the out, by incorporating an 18ft wide pocketing steel door that completely disappears into the walls when open, providing an unobstructed view of Lake Wylie.

Artistic Contractors has many ideas and experience in ‘green’ construction. We would love to discuss these with you. Contact us to learn more.
